Is there some way to configure Windows 10 to display some visual indicator that Windows Updates are ready to be installed?Server 2012 R2 shows a large pop up banner that takes over the screen when you log in.Windows 7 shows an icon in the shut down button and in the task bar plus occasional pop up balloons.We are seeing no visible indication that updates are ready on Windows 10. So, users are often surprised when they come in the next morning and find their workstation restarted overnight to install updates that were invisibly pending on their machine for a few days.You can go into settings and manually check for updates, but hardly anyone ever does that.
Our updates are managed by WSUS. I can manually check for updates and install them on Windows 10 before the installation deadline. We have a volume license for Office 2016 Pro Plus and that version does still have updates that can be managed through WSUS. Only the Office 365 version of Office 2016 is streamed.I found this article that says you can configure Windows 10 to display notification of updates.This looks like it might be what we want if we can manage it all via group policy and combine it with WSUS deadlines so the updates will still install automatically at the deadline time if the user forgets or chooses to not install manually. We just want the users to have the opportunity to install manually before the deadline and constantly see the reminder on their desktop if they either don't see an email reminder or forget about the email notification.We already send mass email notifications out to remind everyone about the installation deadline for regular Patch Tuesday updates.

They have being seeing reminder balloons and icons about Windows Updates ready for installation for years on every OS since XP.Also, sometimes there are updates at random times during the month that apply to only a small subset of users and it isn't practical to send emails out for those individual users.

Disable Office 365 Updates Registry
Click on that to make any message bar disappear.The Updates Available message is in addition to what you’ll see at File Account in Office 2019 or Office 365 for Windows.Use that to update Microsoft Office when it suits you.
