Pen Driver Update for Surface Pros:If you’re the proud owner of a or Surface Pro 2, you may be interested to know that Wacom (the OEM for the Surface pen) recently released a Surface pen driver update.OK, the update wasn’t just for the Surface, it was for all of the Wacom enabled tablets. However, it adds some nice features to the Surface Pro pen that were lacking from the built-in Windows pen options (under Pen and Touch in Control Panel). The update adds the Wacom Pen application which allows you to access the following features: Here is a tip on how to NOT loose your Stylus:. Pressure Sensitivity Adjustments: This allows you to set how sensitive the screen is to pressure for both the tip and the eraser. Button Option: This lets you pick what the Surface pen button will do when pressed. Of particular note is the radial menu option. Click Sound: When enabled, this option makes a click sound when the pen touches the screen. Hard press to Double-Click: Does exactly what you think it would.
Hover Click: It does a double-click when you hold down the button and hold the tip close to the screen (but not touching). Make sure you’re logged in with admin rights. From a web browser, go to and tap the download driver link. Once the driver updates, run the executable. You’ll need to accept the license agreement.
And you’ll need to restart your machine once the installation is complete.Once it’s installed, you should find a Wacom Pen icon in your Apps menu. If you don’t just use the search charm to find it. Surface Pen Driver Update: Radial MenuIn my opinion, the most interesting new feature is the radial menu. Hi,Thanks for a nice Surface related blog:). I have installed this driver on 2 different SP2 the last week and both got a problem after the driver was installer. When I reboot the SP2 it hangs for between 60 and 70 seconds after I have entered the password and it doesn’t help to remove the driver. I have reset both devices and tried again with the same result.
The pen driver also seem unstable because the pen stop responding after a while and I have to restart the surface, enter the password and wait for ab out 60-70 seconds before I can use it.This is my work device and I can’t keep waiting like that when I reboot or boot up if I shut down so it’s a pain and I don’t have time to do another reset and install.Anyone that knows about a solution?RegardsEirik. I haven’t heard of any other folks having that problem. When you removed the new driver, how did you do it?Did you go under Control Panel/ IDE Human Interface Devices and right-click/uninstall both of the following?-Wacom-HID-Compliant PenYou have to do both of them then fully shutdown and restart your Surface. It should find and reinstall the default Microsoft drivers when it comes back up.Make sure there’s a network available when it restarts just in case it needs to go out to get a driver.Hope this helps,Tim. Hi Tim and thanks for the reply.I did yes. The only thing I haven’t done is to clean the registry for anything Wacom related and reinstall the original driver. From a bit of research this problem seem to be event ID 37 so my SP” stops up for 71 seconds during logon after a restart. If you do a cold start this don’t happen. Event ID is not really a new thing in windows so it can’t be related to the wacom pen but it appeared on the first restart after I installed the driver so my first thoughts was crap driver because it keeps stopping so the surface need to restart to get the pen working again.I just hope that the 71 second event id 37 stops one day, a bit annoying having to wait for such a powerful unit as the SP” is to restart.CheersEirik.

Hi,Thank you for this very useful post! However I am having a problemI download the driver, and click run so it can install but it immediately stops and says “a supported tablet was not found on the system”I never installed any previous Wacom drivers or anything. This surface pro 3 is brand new and I’m just setting it up for use with PhotoShop. I even ran the Wacom utility test thing they provide and it did say the driver would be compatible.

I have no clue what’s going on here and no one on the internet seems to be discussing any issue like this. Any help you can provide? I’d really appreciate it. Hi, I attempted to install this upgrade on my Pro 2 without success. For whatever reason it failed to work. The problem I am having now is that even though I un-installed the driver, when I attach the (dead) power cover I use for a keyboard, it fails to recognize it, and the pen itself stops working.

When I go to the device list to see what is going on, I have a ‘Wacom driver’ active. When I disengage the keyboard, it goes away. I am looking to undo this upgrade fully, and get my keyboard back, please help.
