Dear Experts,I am using Internet Explorer 7. With this one site I use (on my computer) I click this link to download a file, and it automatically downloads it to my temporary internet files folder and then actually launches it in Windows Fax & Picture Viewer. On the other computers at my work, a message pops up that says 'Unassociated File Type' or 'Unknown File Type' (I think it might be the second one) and the dialog box has a 'Find', 'Save', & 'Cancel' option. Also, on any of the computers I'm discussing if you just open the file from windows itself, it has no problem, and it is correctly associated with Windows Fax & Picture Viewer or Microsoft Office Document Imaging. So I can tell that the way IE associates files is not the same as the way window uses. What I need to know or what I'm looking for is this: I need to know how to actually associate the file on purpose with both of those two programs, but especially windows fax & picture viewer so that it automatically opens when IE is served a tif document. Thanks! Jcimarron:Ok I have just tried this again, that is, opening a file by going to choose program, selecting windows fax & picture viewer, clicking 'always use this program', and then saving it. The effect is that when I open them from windows itself they do indeed open in windows picture and fax viewer (they did before too, tho).

Unfortunately when I get served a tif still from the internet, it is still coming up with the same dialog saying it's an Unknown File Type. So whatever link is supposed to be carried over from windows to IE seems to not be working. Thanks! JeffreyDurham-The following is strictly guessing.I have a few.tif files on my PC and no.tiff files. But in Windows Tools Folder Options I have both file types listed. TIF is called File. TIFF is called Image.See tif-tiff screenshot below. The implication is that if I were to click Restore I would associate tif with WPFV.

If your Folder Options is set up similarly try it.The other screenshot below is tiff and shows the 'Application used to perform action' to OPEN tiff. This screenshot comes from the Click Advanced Open Edit window.
But since I have no tiff files I could not try it. The full line 'Application used to perform action' readsrundll32.exe C:WINDOWSsystem32shimgv w.dll,Imag eViewFull screen%1You could use this for tif, also. Click Advanced Open Edit and fill the boxes in appropriately.
In fact I suspect tif is set up to open in WPFV on my PC in spite of what the first image says. If I click a tif file it opens in WPFV-not IE.
