QUOTE=Dragunov;1929383I bough a 35 yr old NEF SS 'Pardner' 12g, for Miss 'K' a couple years ago, in 'NIB' condition for $60. It has been very reliable and fun. We have been clay shooting, and target shooting with it. I can't think of a more enjoyable gun to have. Looks exactly like the one you posted. It is, as all my other guns, heirloom status./QUOTEAs far as I know.nef and hr are same gun. I have swapped stocks and barrels between them before.
Single Shot Shotgun Mods To Stock And Barrel
Iirc the nef is blue frame and hr is colorcase hardened frame.only difference. This one is older but appears unfired.like it was bought an stored in safe. It has one tiny handling scar on top of buttstock and that's all that keeps it from being 100%All the ones I've owned had screw-on hard plastic buttplate.this one has a pachmayer recoil pad.appears glued on rather then screwed. Is fitted perfectly.an old style pachmayer.not sure if factory (looks like it) or aftermarket. As far as I know.nef and hr are same gun. I have swapped stocks and barrels between them before. Is fitted perfectly.an old style pachmayer.not sure if factory (looks like it) or aftermarket. Year starting S.N. Year starting S.N. What's so viable about them? I'll take a.22 autorifle over any shotgun, much less a single shot, any day.
I can always just use CB caps when I don't want to make a lot of noise. God help you if you have to fight, even against just one guy with a 22 auto rifle, when all you have is a single shot shotgun. I can drop a deer with a head shot with a.22 rifle, at any range where buckshot will keep him in the same county in which he was shot. (ie, 30 yds, tops). Small game (smaller than a coyote or turkey) aint worth the cost, noise, bulk and weight of a shotshell.
A 12 ga is 10 shells to the lb. 22's are 135 rds to the lb. 22's can be bb gun quiet, a shotgun cannot.

As far as noise, I can here the report of a.22 from a mile or more away, so there goes the sound advantage. I would 'fight' with either my AR or my SKS. NOT a SS 12g.There are a lot of us here that can put a round up a flies butt at 300 yards. Big deal.I hunt rabbits and game birds with a shotgun. If you use a rifle for a flying bird, you can accidentally injure someone down range. A shotgun for birds is more of a safety thing, and I have NEVER heard a.22 'as quiet as a BB gun!' Not unless it had a supressor, even then, STILL much louder than a BB gun.
This is my first post on this forum. Good to meet ya'll.
I own three pumps, including a BPS and an old Winchester '97, but last week I found an old Steven's single shot 16 ga., just like the one I had when I was a kid. The breach was supertight and the bore looked like a mirror. $69.00 was the price and I brought it home.
I followed up this week by buying an OLD Riverside (company was owned by Stevens) singleshot 12 ga. The bore on this one does show some pitting, but not too much.
The breach is super tight. The blueing is about gone. What sold me on this one was the silver/grey color of the receiver and barrel, the old rounded pistol grip and small forestock.
Patent date is 1913, but from the looks it probably was made before 1930. I'll be shooting low brass only from it, but that's ok, because both of these guns are strictly for squirrels and rabbits. Hunting with a singleshot reminds me of fishing with a cane pole and worms instead of a graphite rod, freespooling baitcasting reel and artificial lures. Anyway, I wanted to show off these guns. The total price for both of them was less than $150.00 which is probably twenty or thirty more than they are really worth, but I still like them. Good to meet you guys.16 gauge Stevens12 gauge Riverside. Click to expand.I'm glad you still have your first shotgun.
I got mine for Christmas when I was twelve and it was stolen a few years later when our house was broken into. Both my Stevens and my Dad's Winchester '97 16 ga. My Dad served on an APD destroyer in the South Pacific in WWII and when they brought the ship home after the war, he was still onboard.
Told the crew to take whatever they wanted because the ship was to be broken up and the yard crew would take anything that was left. All he took was a box of files and that Winchester pump that they used to shoot skeet with from the back deck. That gun was the first real firearm I ever shot. He hated to see that gun stolen.
Anyway, I found a Winchester 16 ga. '97 a few years back and bought it. It was just like my Dad's except, after I bought it, I found that it was chambered for 2 9/16' shells, so I've never shot it. Turned out it was made in 1906. I've been meaning to get into reloading so I could shoot it, but never have. The Firearms Forum is on online community for all gun enthusiasts.
